Essential/useful items
As much as possible, try to purchase organic and locally produced items
Produce
Lots of fresh, seasonal fruits
Lots of fresh, seasonal vegetables, especially dark leafy greens, root vegetables (beets, carrots, etc.), and brassica (cabbage, broccoli, etc.)
Lemons (preferably meyer, you will need a lot)
Fresh ginger, garlic & turmeric
Frozen fruits (especially mango & blueberries)
Bananas (ripen until brown, peel and freeze in a large ziplock bag)
Seasoning, oils
Stevia (If you can find organic stevia leaves, that is the best option. If not, liquid tastes better than powder. Now Better Stevia Organic.)
Coconut oil (for all oils, please look for organic, cold-pressed, unrefined)
Coconut milk (organic full-fat in a can)
Sea salt (I like pink himalayan)
Basic spices & herbs such as cinnamon
Grains, legumes, nuts & seeds
Nuts (almond, walnuts, cashew, etc.)
Seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, sesami, etc.)
Quinoa (organic yellow/white)
Brown rice (Masa Organic is local and delicious. Can find at Berkeley farmer’s market)
Lentil (I like green and red) and other legumes of your choice (chickpea, etc.)
Other dried fruits of choice (cranberries, raisins, cherries, goji berry, etc.)
Coffee/tea/cacao
Decaf coffee (Only if you are a current coffee drinker. Water processed type is best: we like Bicycle coffee, which is local and sustainable. You can also try Verve or Ruby’s)
Organic Tea (green, white, herbal. I like Jaogulan, hojicha, blue lotus rooibos chai, and White Orchard)
Kitchen gadgets
